About

Navigation

This webpage is built using CSS. If you do not see light blue bars down both sides of the page it is time to upgrade your browser now. However the contents of these bars will appear at the top of the page. Any faults using CSS-capable open source browsers should be reported on the contacts page. Any faults using IE are your problem.

The main site menu is on the mountains on the top banner. You can use this to move quickly from one area to another.

Below that and above the main content will appear the breadcrumb navigation, so you can get back out. It's not there now because this page is right at the top of the hierarchy.

The bar on the left holds links from the current page deeper into the site. It also holds a tag cloud, social networking buttons and maybe a book recommendation.

On the right bar you will see any any information relevant to the page and a few links to other sites worthy of visiting.

This site is hosted at Wikidot, which is a wiki farm. You don't need to know anything about wikis in order to browse the site, because here I am just using it to build a normal website. It is just easier than slaving away over an HTML editor and uploading everything by FTP. But it is also almost as flexible as that, and a whole lot more flexible than any website-builder. And I don't have to learn PHP.

Personal Recommendations

On the left bar may be brief reviews of books relevant to the page you are reading. These are all excellent books that I thoroughly recommend. I have them all and wouldn't be without them. Some are free downloads and some are physical books. In the case of physical books clicking on them will take you to the amazon.co.uk site. If you buy them through that link then I get 5% (It costs you no more.) All of the personal recommendations are collected on the recommendations page

Licensing

Unless otherwise specified the content of this site uses a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 License. You may assume that, where I have authority to license, the infrastructure of the site and any neat Wiki tricks I use are in the public domain.

To put that in simpler language without prejudice, I don't mind you using my infrastructure for your site, be it commercial or not, but you can not use my content without giving me credit, and you can not make money from my content without asking for my permission.

The CSS is based on the Northern Lights theme by RobElliott. Therefore the CSS for this site is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License.

The mountains on the top banner are taken from a photograph by Amateria1121 at en.wikipedia under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License. The banner is therefore similarly licensed.

I should include a link to card-opt.gif, which is hosted here.

Why Soronlin?

The name is JRR Tolkien's Quenya Elven:

Soron
Eagle; the Sindarin form is Thoron, as in Thorondor, King of the Eagles
Lin
Song; as in Lindor and Ainulindalë

Actually eagle song is a harsh barking noise, but the name still sounds good.
